What would you like to know about us?
Jack and Elaine here – two adventurous seniors out exploring the world. We’ve been traveling internationally since 2010 when we did our first horseback safari in Botswana. Back then, our travel took the form of 2 to 3 week “vacations.” It just wasn’t long enough though, so in 2013 we started traveling for longer and longer periods of time, eventually creating what we consider to be a “travel lifestyle.” Now, we can easily be gone 4 or 5 months at a time. And yes, we are retired.
Next, we started our blog.
We started out sharing daily experiences in each new neighborhood. Therefore, you won’t find tidy itineraries on our site. There are no “10 best of this or 25 best of that” for any given destination.
You see, as extended travelers, we become part of the community. Our pace is slower, our days marginally planned. We do not rush out the door each day to run though yet another tour. We really do have all the time we desire to explore, meet people and just have fun.
For example, in Cuenca, we joined a gym, got massages, attended a local Spanish speaking Church, and went to a local Doctor when Jack was sick. I tried red light therapy for bursitis, we looked at real estate, took a bus to the Cajas and went hiking, ate, drank….we did it all. There are free walking tours in Cuenca, and we did that too! Basically, we got to know what it’s really like to live in Cuenca. And then we wrote about it.
Over the years, we discovered many unique and creative travel opportunities.
These opportunities enable most anyone to create an affordable travel lifestyle. Do we come back home because we are broke? Absolutely not! And don’t worry! We are not couch surfers and you won’t find us in a youth hostel. Just not our style.
Likewise, you will not find us ensconced in a vacation resort, although we did make an exception for our 10th anniversary. I’m happy to say that the overwater villas at the Intercontinental Bora Bora Thalasso Spa Resort are tres magnifique!
One major expense is our international flights which tend to be first class. Let’s face it, our boomer bodies don’t bounce back the way they used to. Other than that, we use several apps to watch for the best domestic flights.
